Artist bio/statement:
Marcelino Garcia or proper, is a trova-inspired artist that is ever-evolutionary. An actor by trade, proper has spent several years in the independent film and stage scene in both Austin, TX and NYC. In 2004, his work was put on hold to work on 2 masters degrees in education. All the while, he maintained a foot in the artistic world by working on singer-songwriter material that would become his band Proper and maintained collaborative stage/screen writing projects. Marcelino also spent those years traveling to Latin countries and collaborating with local talents from, Mexico, Argentina, Panama, Costa Rica, Spain, Italy (its Latin, trust me), Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Proper, Half-truths was released in Summer of 2012 ushering in a return to the arts. That same year, he returned to the screen in his role as the villain, Carlos Soto in the series Zombie Hunters, City of the Dead. Since then, he has become part of the Perth Amboy arts scene, collaborating with local talents in painting, music, film and performances. Proper loves playing Perth Amboy as a street performer and has even performed in a Lucha Libre wrestling ring as part of the 2018 Cinco de Mayo celebration at the 5 corners. Currently, proper is seeking to beautify the Perth Amboy he now calls home. He is ready with new music arrangements, small budget video shorts, and collective mural pieces. He is always on the lookout for local artist to come visit Hueco Studios in Perth Amboy for potential collaboration.
proper is proud to have had the opportunity to collaborate with some notable artists: Grammy Winners: Luis Gasca from Los Angeles(Giant), Adrian Quesada and Grupo Fantasma from Austin, TX (El Existential), Bernardo Quesada from Costa Rica (Suenos, Ruben Blades) and Cha Limon from Cuba (Buena Vista Social Club). Of these artist, while great in their own rights, pale in comparison to the many local artists that proper has had the opportunity to work and play with. These folk artist keep art alive. They do not get their recognition and need to be supported. Marcelino Garcia, proper is always available to collaborate with locals, from recording demos and performing, to painting full-scale murals.
